"The days are growing shorter for these winged ones. Soon they will disappear and be replaced by a different kind of Nature's beauty. So for now I will capture all of Nature's color thru my camera lens and share it with you. This beauty was in my friends yard feeding on these delicate flowers.
The butterfly has always been a symbol between my father and me. Although he has been gone for 46 years I still hear him singing his silly butterfly song every time a flutterby crosses my path. Funny how some things never leave your memory :)
Yesterday as I was sitting at a stop sign one flew into my window and flitted around in front of me! How wonderful I thought and whispered, Hi Daddy, Love you!
I wish you all a magical day wherever you are on this planet we call home. Go outside! Nature is calling you!!"

The butterflies proboscis is made up of 2 parts (each is a galea) that zip together after the adult emerges from the pupa. When it emerges, the proboscis consists of 2 strands, but it soon begins to coil and uncoil these and the two parts fuse into . Each galea has a groove, that when the 2 are fused, the groove forms the food canal. Inside each galea there is a trachea as well as a nerve and muscles.
